I realise i haven't been blogging for a while...that would be due to the fact, i wasn't feeling well all last week and this week was just busy busy busy but mainly due to the fact....i'm lazy.

hehehehe monday would definitely be the highlight of the week. Purely acting on spontaneity, i decided to give dancing a go so i tagged along with christian, mel and mark (friends from church) to some dance class promo. I might just add...that it was modern couple dancing...before you start thinking pris has picked up dirty dancing or something. We arrived 10 minutes late and i walked in watching all these random ppl paired up dancing and the first thing that popped into my head was.."what in the WORLD have you got me into!!???"

Despite my unco-ness and inexperience i had such a blast. I seriously didnt think dancing was so much fun AND TIRING. After spinning around and around in circles...i felt soo dizzzy and i don't know how many times i crashed into the couples dancing around me (whoops) and i dont know how many times the guy had to grab me before i tripped over them. One thing i learnt about dancing is...the girl doesn't have to know a thing about dancing as long as the guy does. Just like every other aspect in life..the girl has to do what the guy says and the other thing i was taught.."just relax and have fun" =)

I'm glad the week is overr and i have no assessments due next week!! yippeeee!! which means..it's time to cram for the 3 assignments due the week after =( Despite the rain that has been falling without fail the past 13 days it's amazing how God never fails to brighten up the day. I feel so blessed that God has blessed me with such a great bunch of friends at uni and brought me to such an amazing church. I've been here for nearly 3 months now and i don't doubt for one minute that i've been brought to the place God wants me to be. It never fails to amaze me the way God works and how he just places every piece of the puzzle together according to his own good and perfect will..a plan so perfect, i could never have come up with on my own.

Do me a favor
Would you sing this to me slow?
'Cause I'm thinking it's my song
Do me a favor
Would you tell me when to let go?
'Cause I think I'm holding on
Would you do it for me?
'Cause I'm playing for keeps

Tell me tomorrow has come
With open arms
If you say it's time to move on
Then I'll stop holding on
If you say that it's
time for moving on
Time for moving on

Do me a favor
Would you tell me which way is up?
'Cause I don't know how to quit

Do me a favor
'Cause I'm playing for keeps

I'm pretty sure I'm coming down with something. My eyes are really red and bloodshot today...and i have no idea why. I actually didn't notice until someone pointed it out to me at church...and i promise you i haven't been crying...unles i cried in my sleep or something and i wasnt aware of it. Anyway..not feeling very well today...just that weak, headachey, no appetite...you know you're about to get sick kinda feeling. nooo...i can't get sick now =( there's so much to do.
The sermon today was on evngelism and there was one quote that really stood out to me:
"preach at all times and when necessary use words" St. Francis
I found that pretty cool.

i had the best day today =) as part of my fieldwork, i spent a few hours at a pharmacy. It's the second part of my fieldwork coz i already did a couple of hours last week but i didn't learn very much last week coz the pharmacy was so busy. Today however, i probably learnt more about pharmacy in the couple of hours i was there than i had in 6 weeks of lectures. The head pharmacist kindly devoted part of his precious time into being my personal teacher =) it just so happens that he's about to start teaching in the pharmacy faculty for 2nd years and above so he'll probably be my tutor next year or something which i'm really excited about because he's such a great teacher =) I dispensed my first few scripts today :D he figured that instead of telling me about the dispensing process i'd probably learn a lot more if i actually did some dispensing myself. He'd give me a script and i'd have to type up all these details on the database and then double check and triple check if the details are all accurate and matching and then he'd give me this really FAT medication handbook and get me to look up the medication and ask me what it treats, what it does and what is that particular disease state. It's so scary how they're like literally hundreds of drugs...and the pharmacist knew off the top of his head...the brand name, the drug name(which is like..all really long and complicated eg. esomeprazol)..the different strengths of the drug and what it treats...i have no idea how i'm going to learn it all. I dispensed a drug which i found out was a really strong medication to treat nausea caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The pharmacist told me that it was quite a rare drug to dispense and when you do dispense it you know the patient you're dealing with is very sick ie. they're cancer patients which is sad but it's always nice when you look at the medical history and see the strength of the drug decreasing indicating they're getting better =) I didn't get to counsel patients obviously...but it was really interesting just observing the way pharmacists talk to patients...just the friendliness, patience you have to have..and the ability to just make conversation to put the patient at ease. I even learnt about dodgy scripts they come across and the druggies they have to deal with. It's amazing how sharp you have to be to pick up any signs of fraud. ah well...end of a great day...it's back to pen on paper this weekend unfortunately =(

just when i thought i had officially detached myself from all dota-obsessed/computer gaming freaks(sorry...couldn't think of a nicer way to put it) i find myself surrounded by a new bunch. I guess it's true...all boys are the same. It's dota talk...during breaks..dota talk during lectures..whenever they get a chance to open their mouth really. I found myself in the all too familiar situation of being stuck literally in the middle of one. What's quite sad is...i'm so used to it..it really doesn't bother me too much anymore. It's the same old story..the girls just look at each other and try to talk really loud about shopping or something girly like that over the top. What's even more sad is.. i think i'm going to be an expert at that game even though i have never once played it before.

We're in week 5 now and time is flying by. Before we know it...it'll be mid semester and before we know it..it'll be exam period. The honeymoon 'ooo yayy..we're in uni now...time to have fun' feeling has well and truly disappeared and now we're all frantically trying to keep on top of it all. I have two tests and one assignment this week plus a whole lot of little stuff to do..and the tests and assignments are just going to continue flowing in from now on. Apparently i "haven't seen nothing yet." It always scares me when a older pharm student or a fully graduated pharmacist says that to me. i did a couple of hours placement at a pharmacy the other day as part of field work and realised i have soooo much to learn but i'm excited :D There really is so much more to it than.."take 2 tablets twice a day."

Sydney is one strange city. Even though i'm trying to blend in as a local...it really doesn't seem to be working.

Some strange things people have said to me over the past few weeks that i have found quite amusing:
"You have a melbourne accent."
"You dress like a melbournian"
"You seem to dress a cut above the rest."
"You come from Melbourne?! you poor dear..."

Other things I've found really eye opening:
1. See, it has taken me a while to get myself a scientific calculator so for the past few weeks I've been using my graphics calculator at uni and when ever i whip it out i get the funniest reactions. You see, people here have never heard of this contraption before and if they have, then they certainly have never laid eyes upon one until the day they met me. Students here dont get to use graphics calculators in year 12. You decide whose standard of maths is higher. (personally i reckon vic wins...but people here think it's cheating :p )

2. Speaking of the differences in cirriculum...i could not get over the fact year students here pretty much had to write essaysin chemistry and physics. In a way it's smart coz they deliberately made it that way so that asians who can only calculate really well but can't apply theory and write essays for crap won't get an advantage. Having said that though, science standards in victoria are so much higher. I can't believe students don't do organic chem here in year 12 when we spend like one semester doing it in vic and when it comes to things like oribtals..they'd be like.."what are orbitals?" oh well..at least it means i get a head start in chem for uni.

3. The roads. omgosh. where do i start? The traffic is a nightmare. Cars everywhere. People everywhere. Roads going in all different directions. One way streets. and the conditions of the roads are horrible! as in...the road itself...it's like there's no such thing as road work here. Some of the major...MAJOR roads in sydney are in the most run down state and driving on them makes you think you're in anywhere but sydney. Let's just say...i didn't know what a pot hole looked like until i came here :p and the problem is...they can't level out the roads and make them smooth because that would mean road work and road work implies that the road will need to be closed which implies CHAOS as it is already chaos with all lanes open.

5. People here don't give a crap about AFL. They don't know the first thing about AFL. which kinda sucks coz although I don't really like the sport all thaat much...it's certainly better than rugby. All people care about here is the NRL. i don't know the first thing about rugby! and they dont make it as grand as they make AFL in melbourne so it's kinda different not seeing everyone walking around the city with their team scarf wrapped around their neck.

4. You don't realise how laid back melbourne actually is until you stay in sydney for a while. It really is a much bigger city. There are so many people here and everyone is always on the go.

But i'm just being a picky, biased melbournian :D other than those little things, it's a great city and i love it here :D dw..i will do a post on how great sydney is as well..of which there are many actually :p Now that i'm in sydney, i really have been exposed to the whole melbourne-sydney rivalry. I stand on neither side of the debate. They're both great cities with pros and cons.
